Business Manager

 

Position Purpose:  A part-time position dedicated to business aspects of St. Matthew.

Position Description: The Business Manager is responsible for: in general, management of the financial business of the church; timely bill payment resulting in avoidance of late charges and protection of the church’s reputation and credit standing with vendors and suppliers; timely preparation and payment of payroll for the church staff; supervision of and preparation of regular reports regarding budget compliance by the church and its committees; coordinating compliance with applicable laws and regulations; compliance with state and federal tax laws and regulations including timely preparation, filing and paying all applicable federal and state payroll taxes and distribution of individual W-2 and 1099 forms; coordinating building inspections conducted by outside vendors or agencies; attending monthly Finance Committee meetings; and other duties as assigned.

The Business Manager position is part-time of about 13-16 hours per week. The Business Manager is expected to work on the church premises, except in extraordinary circumstances and with the advance approval of the Senior Pastor. All files and records related to this position shall be maintained at the church. Any computer passwords utilized by the Business Manager to protect such files and records or to access computer programs or equipment utilized by the church shall be provided to the Senior Pastor or his/her designee.

Position Reports To:  The Business Manager reports directly to the Senior Pastor and the church Treasurer. Annual performance reviews will be conducted by the Staff Relations Committee in cooperation with the Senior Pastor. The Staff Relations Committee oversees salary reviews and is the committee through which job-related concerns may be addressed.

Qualifications: A high level of computer skills, a degree in Business/Accounting is preferred, and extensive experience in business management is also desirable. Applicants should be fully capable in the use of QuickBooks, Word and Excel. Any computer equipment supplied by the church, as well as all data on such computers, shall be and remain the property of the church.

The Business Manager must have good organizational skills and work efficiently with typical office systems, be a self-starter and self-motivator and be able to work flexibly with both close and distant supervision and with other staff members.
